So how do you get pass that?

This is somehow related to my previous post about how to make money in the make-money-market. The key point is to make yourself a more familiar name.

Imagine this - the moment they open up their inbox they recognize you. You yourself would mostlikely to open an email from somebody you know rather than a stranger.

But how do you make that other person know you even before opening the email?

I've got a few tricks to that - I call it Advance Online Networking.

How does that work? Well, here goes ... People don't really have to know about you only from the email that you send them. Let say that you don't subscribe to my newsletter. And suddenly you got an email from me. The FROM writes, "Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino". Would you open it? Maybe ... if the subject line is interesting enough. But most probably you'll just click the delete button.

Now, what if you were at a seminar the week before and we met there. We talked about business strategies and even exchanged cards.

Then later you got that email, "From: Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino" You might be saying to yourself, "Ah ... it's that guy from the seminar last week."

See the difference?

Here's the big secret ... you don't have to be at seminar with me, or anything other guy to be able to create that effect. It can all be done online (atleast almost all).

Again ... How?

[+] 1 - Forums ... Best with Private Forums

It's no secret that you can meet a lot of interesting people in forums. And it's sometimes surprising to see who's participating in that forums. I think in cases like this, private forums work best. For one thing, there isn't a lot of members. That makes it easier for the other guy to know you. And the feeling with private forum is different.

For example, when I am in TurningIdeasIntoDollars.com (TIID), I feel that I can share more details when seeking advice. I don't feel that risks of copycats and sabotage that much.

Apart from that, private forums normally are joined by people who are more serious about their business. This is a good place to search for potential business acquintances.

There're two things that you can do at forums. First is to participate in discussions. Give valuable insights and share your tips, tricks, opinion, experience, etc.

The second thing that you can do is start a great topic to discuss. When you created an interesting topic, more people will respond to it. And that will make you are more known person.

[+] 2 - Commenting Blog Posts

The person that you are trying to get in touch with might also be an active blogger. That's a good thing. With this, I recommend that you get an RSS aggregator like SharpReader and subscribe to their site feed, you know the RSS or XML. I can't really teach you that here. It's out of the topic. But with an RSS aggregator, it's eaiser to follow what that person is writing in his/her blog.

Apart from watching what they write, here're other things that you must do. Be on the lookout for interesting topics. Better still, topics that are related to you, or those that you can share valuable points. And just do that - share your points by commenting on their posts.

When you have something to share about what they wrote, go over to that blog and drop a comment. You see, most bloggers are more anxious about what people comment on their blogs rather than what they get in the email.

So give a comment, and they will read it. And that will make yourself known to that other person. Better still, give more comments everytime they put new posts.

[+] 3 - Putting Blog Trackbacks

This is something else that you can do if you are a blogger yourself. Sometimes you see that one blogger started to write about something, and suddenly other bloggers follow.

Well, you can do that too. There's nothing wrong in following ... When somebody wrote about an interesting thing, you can write about that same thing. But make sure you do these two things.

One is to credit that first blogger. You can say something like "Sam wrote about XYZ in his blog. I think ... " The second thing that you should do is put a trackback. In your blog admin (like WordPress), there's a place where you can put in trackback URLs. A trackback is like a comment, it's just that you do it from your blog and not theirs.

Look for a trackback URL and put that in when you are writing a new post. Be sure that you post and the other post is related. Don't put trackbacks to a post about vegetables when you are writing about the computers.

[+] 4 - Join a Teleseminar

Every now and then, there are free teleseminars that you can join. I am sure that you'll learn something interesting in there, even if you know there's going to be a sales pitch at the end.

But every chance you get to join a teleseminar, do it. Normally at the beginning of the teleseminar, there's a intro slot. You get to say your name and tell where you are coming from. Make sure you do that.

And at the end of the teleseminar, there may also be a Q&A session. Participate in that - introduce yourself and ask your question.

One time ago, I participated in a teleseminar and I said, "This is Kidino from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia." And that host said, "Woow!" I am sure that she remembers me - true enough, it's proven when I wrote to her.

Yep ... pretty basic but not many really do this. If the person that you are trying to get in touch with has a product, buy it. Then write to them telling how you like the product (if you really like it that is).

Good business person will take product support very seriously. And when they get an email from a customer, most of the time, they think it's a support request. Now, when you write something unexpected, like praising them about their work, you'll be remembered.

It's so tempting to take the easy road sometimes.

It's even easier to just put something off altogether and say, "next time".  We procrastinate by saying, "I'll make twice as many tomorrow", or "I'll do it with twice the effort next time."  And what happens?  Tomorrow and next time come, and we put it off yet again.

Having an accountability partner on your success team plays a powerful role in helping you keep your eye on the "bigger" picture and your head in the game. 

Going it alone may be considered admirable by some who feel the need to declare, "I did it all by myself!" as though it were the ultimate demonstration of strength of character, however, it is by no means the best or quickest way to make your dream come true. 

Choosing to build your business or pursue any significant goal without an accountability partner will increase your chances of failure or may severely impede your progress.

It's human nature to back off when things get a little uncomfortable or challenging, and it's at these times more than ever, you need someone in your corner, edging you on and pushing you further.

A perfect example of the power of accountability was demonstrated this morning as I contemplated my workout appointment at the gym.

I have worked out off and on for years and as soon as I felt discomfort in my muscles, I would quit, thinking it just wasn't worth the pain.  If the planets weren't in alignment, my morning toast was slightly burned, or it was one degree hotter or colder outside than I cared for, it was a good excuse for me not to exercise.

I won't beat around the bush when it comes to admitting I don't like exercise, but at the same time, there is absolutely no denying its importance in maintaining a high quality of life and optimum health. 

When you're not physically healthy, your energy levels are compromised, your mind doesn't function at optimum efficiency, your moods may be altered and heavy, and an imbalance may be created that will affect all areas of your life and business.

When one area of your life suffers, they all do, and if an area requiring attention is a major challenge for you, this is where the need for accountability is paramount.

In my case of physical fitness, I knew I would never stick to a program or hold myself to a certain standard without a partner to hold me accountable, so I hired a personal trainer. 

I explained to her that I hated exercise and if a magic "fitness" pill was invented, I'd be the first in line to buy it. I also asked her if she could do the workouts for me so I could increase muscle tone through osmosis.  (I think it was at that point she realized she had her work cut out for her.)

Because of my trainer's courage in taking me on, and her belief in and dedication to my success, I will move heaven and earth to make her proud. Today I amazed not only her, but myself.

Over the past three weeks, we've received more than 100 cm of snow.  Last night we received another major dumping that was formed into high drifts by powerful winds from the north.  It was one of our coldest mornings this winter at almost minus 40 degrees with the wind chill.

Brrrrr!

This morning was the big test. There was no way my trainer could be disappointed in me if I didn't show.  I had a foot of snow in my driveway, the winds were raging outside and it was the coldest morning of the year.  My snowplow guy was swamped clearing driveways and I probably wouldn't see him for hours. I had an out!

Now, I easily could have crawled back into bed and put off exercising for a day, but it isn't so easy anymore.  Someone else is now holding me accountable and isn't going to let me fall back into my comfort zone.

What did I do?

I put on my snowmobile suit, warm knit hat, skidoo mitts and ski goggles, and got shoveling!  It took almost an hour and thankfully my dearly beloved came home from night shift and helped me finish, but I cleared a path so I wouldn't miss that workout!

The funny thing is I didn't feel harried or frustrated by the event. I only proved what is a well-known truth.  We can accomplish anything if it means enough to us, but even more so if we have an accountability partner in the process.

As you set your goals and plan your ideal future, make a point of surrounding yourself with people who believe in you and who will hold you accountable for your actions. 

It's so easy to fall back into what is undemanding and comfortable that failure to move forward is always a looming threat.

As you plan to create success in your life whether it be building a successful business, improving your financial situation, optimizing health, etc., make sure you have a coach or someone on your success team to hold you accountable and keep you in action.

The power of accountability is incredible. Add this ingredient to your success plan and you will amaze yourself by revealing how capable you really are!

My first experience was with a company called Liberty Alliance; I don't even think they are around anymore.  I saw an ad in the newspaper for a company that offered flexible hours with the potential to earn thousands of dollars per week.  When I went to the interview I sat through a brief presentation and afterwards spoke with a few reps.  The business model worked, but little did I know I'd be cold calling people and trying to get my friends and family to join my opportunity.

The number one mistake that many people make is trying to recruit their friends and family.  In order to be successful in any type of internet business you have to find ways to reach a targeted audience.  Had I talked to people that were already looking for my opportunity I might have been much more successful.

I realized that in order to see success and in order to grow a business you must advertise. After all I found an ad in the newspaper for a network marketing company, so it would only make sense that I should do the same rather than trying to convince people of the business idea I needed to reach people looking for me.

The problem is many people lack the necessary marketing skills when it comes to launching their internet business.  There are plenty of programs available online that provide useful information when it comes to marketing online.  When I finally received the training I needed to market successfully online everything became clear.  I needed to get my website in front of the right audience, whether it was from newspaper ads, pay per click search engines, Craig's list, or any type of free classifieds online and offline.  It was evident that this is what I needed to do in order to explode my income online.

Making money online is possible and if you have the desire to do so, you will succeed if you have a definite plan.  Many successful business owners fail initially, but it's their persistency that eventually wins in the long run.  Learn how to market effectively online and you will see an explosion in your income.

When building a plan for greater visibility you want to look at several things.

1) Making sure you are aiming your light at the right target market. If you are just beginning in your field there is a tendency to spread a wide net. Once you gain more experience you find there are particular clients you really want to focus on. Then you have your more specific target market. The most non-effective way of shining your light is pointing it in all directions as if you were searching. Be focused.

2) What type of visibility tactics do you enjoy? This is important. If you don't enjoy what you are doing it will come across in your message.

Examples:

If you enjoy speaking, what groups fit your criteria for your target market? Then, you might think of what groups fit the environment you enjoy. Once you have determined that, make those introductory calls to the group leaders and get on their speaking docket.

If you enjoy writing, what style of writing do you like? Mine happens to be writing from the heart through actual experiences. It is usually in story form. It reflects learning's and provides positive viewpoints giving others room to grow.  The bottom line is, if you like to write -- then write! Do it in your style and get your stories out to your market.

If you enjoy facilitating what could you bring as a sampling of your work. I have a friend with an Improv business. She and her staff host an open house at different times during the year to let the public "experience" what they do. They invite current and past clients as well as new possibilities. In Person and Sampling is most effective for them to build their database as well as client base.

I could go on but I bet you get the idea. Whatever approach you use, pay attention to what you enjoy and the strengths you have. Don't be afraid to be creative. That's when your uniqueness will shine.

3) Find other businesses that compliment what you do and visa versa. I have just approached several coaching and alternative healthcare website owners to offer article content. I provide the articles at no charge and they provide their database with the information. It is a win/win opportunity. I have a peer and friend with  who consistently looks for complimentary content that will benefit her client base. She has already requested this article be on her database before it's ready to go. There are many publishers on the Internet that will place your article on their website at no charge for other business owners to pick up. i.e.

There are also other websites that have a range of what they charge to publish your work i.e., (provides the Slightly Famous Marketing Plan Guide for free when you sign up for their free newsletter)

What will you do to be seen? Think about what you enjoy, what is most effective for your product or service and get out there and DO IT! Consistency is the key. Choose one or two marketing approaches, stick to the plan and work it. You will be happy with the results.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of off-the-shelf, free and alternative products out there vying for your money, time or both.  And most of them are junk.

Don't suffer like I did. I learned the hard way.  When I started on the Internet I couldn't find a decent shopping cart program, so I took one that was highly recommended by my ISP (I now know the only reason they suggested it was because it made them the most money.  They didn't care if it was the best one for me or not).  What a headache!  The system wouldn't do anything but take the order, but you had to have a PhD in computer science to work on it.

Here are 22 questions you absolutely, unfailingly must ask anyone trying to sell you a shopping cart.  If you don't hear positive answers to the majority of these questions, put your wallet back into your pocket and evaluate the next option.  Don't get stuck with a crappy shopping cart, even if they give it to you free.

If you have a poor shopping cart, get rid of it.  I know that hurts, because you may have spent lots of time and money getting it going, but a bad one will cost you many thousands of dollars by waiting to replace it later rather than sooner.

Oh, and one more thing: if you hear the shopping cart programmer answer one of the questions below by saying, "Well, we could make it do that," run away even faster, because you're going to get stuck with a big custom programming bill with no guarantees that the cart is going to work the way you expected.

Every question below is very important when it comes to having a quality shopping cart system that gets more money out of the same number of visitors.

1. Will it calculate shipping and tax?

2. Does it handle specialized shipping like FedEx and UPS?

3. Will it automatically deliver hard goods and soft goods (e- books and other digital products) in the same transaction?

4. Does it offer customizable "Return to Shopping" pages without needing custom programming?  This is important so you can send your customers to the most likely product they will buy next.  Standard carts just send customers back to the main catalog, which forces them to search for related products.  This is both irritating and time-consuming.  Any delays in finding what they want could mean a lost sale, when they finally throw their hands up in disgust and move on to your competitor's site.

5. Does it offer customizable "Thank You" pages based on what the customer just bought?  These are pages where savvy marketers put affiliate links and other offers specifically related to the customer's interests.  When a customer clicks on one of these links and buys something from someone else, you get a commission.

6. Does it deliver receipt and confirmation e-mails automatically?  The customer wants to know immediately that the order went through.  If he or she is unsure, you are going to have to field many wasted e-mails and phone calls letting the customer know everything is OK.

7. Does it allow multiple order and dropship e-mails?  In many cases, several different people in your organization and/or outside your organization need notice of an order.  Again, you don't want to have to do this manually.

8. Does it have a Web-based administration page so you can work on your cart from any computer that has Internet access?

9. Does it include encryption technology and a secure server?  Many companies make a fortune by sucking you in with a cheap or free cart and then make money on selling you an overpriced secure server.

10. Does it deliver easy output to your accounting software?  You want to be able to import and export data easily between the cart and whatever programs you have that need to share the customer and sales information.

11. Does it have its own associate/affiliate program or is it easily compatible with other major brands of associate software?  An affiliate program lets other people promote and sell your products on their Web sites.  You don't pay them unless they sell something.  When I tried to get an associate/affiliate program to work with my old cart, it cost me six months of down time and untold amounts of money lost because it wouldn't work.  The associate program people blamed the shopping cart people and vice versa.  But ultimately I was left holding the bag.

12. Does it have integrated up-sell modules?  The ability to offer more related products to customers making a purchase makes me a small fortune each month.  We call it, "Do you want fries with that?"  If you don't have this ability, you are leaving many thousands of dollars on the table from people who would have spent more if your cart just gave them the chance.

13. Does it have an integrated sales and prospect database?  In the old days I would have to print out orders and then retype them into ACT or some other database program.  A good shopping cart system eliminates all this hassle and potential for error and gives you instant access to your sales reports and clients.

14. Does it have broadcast e-mail capability?  Good shopping cart systems are able to manipulate your customer database instantly and send e-mails to any segment or sub-segment of your clients and handle unlimited e-mail magazines.  Again, in the old days I would have to be genius enough to pick out segments of the database, export them to a file, import them into a mail program and then an hour later send the darn e-mail.  Now this is all done in a few seconds.

15. Does it have mail merge capability?  The e-mails sent are personalized to the recipients in any number of ways.  Their names can be popped in to the subject line and in various portions of the body of the e-mail.  You can merge "what they bought," "when they bought," "where they live" or just about anything that will make them feel the e-mail was just for them.  Virtually all studies show that mail merge gets a much higher response than plain broadcast e-mail.

16. Can it handle coupons and other discounts?  You can make a deal with Joe Blow that everyone coming from his Web site gets an automatic discount -- either a percentage or dollar amount.  This makes Joe look great to his visitors and makes more sales for you.  Here's a secret: Joe is your affiliate and makes money on the sale too, so he's got a great incentive to keep your discounts and coupons in front of his visitors.  Good shopping cart systems can automate all of this and also handle any quantity discounts you offer.

17. Can it work for multiple Web sites with no extra fees?  When I first started I had to get a separate (and expensive) license for each site and a separate merchant account too.  Not only was this a great deal of expense, the hassle with installation every time you wanted a new site to go up was enormous.  Modern carts can sell bras on one site and bibles on another, and no one knows the difference.  The carts run on their own servers so there is no expensive installation and set-up is immediate.

18. Does it have unlimited and fully integrated "sequential" autoresponders?  This is one of the most powerful features when it comes to Internet marketing.  This feature follows up automatically over and over again to your clients and prospects to provide them customer care and to sell them more products and services.  You can even provide free or paid e-mail courses, and each part of the course is delivered automatically.

19. Does it have ad tracking tied into actual sales?  Simple ad tracking can be had all over the 'Net, but it is pretty much worthless unless it is tied to actual sales.  This is called the "conversion ratio."  Your cart system should be able to tell you how many people clicked on a particular promotion and how many people bought.  This is the only way you can determine if an ad paid off.  Good carts will also automatically split test one of your sales pages against another and tell you which page sells more.  You keep the page that sells more and get rid of the page that sells less.

20. Does it have a pop-up box builder?  Even though many people hate popup boxes, they work.  I use them judiciously to make all kinds of offers, and I have the sales figures to prove they get more money out of the same number of people.  If you know how to use them properly, no one gets upset.

21. Does it have a printable off-line order form?  Believe it or not, many people are still afraid to put their credit card numbers into a Web site.  I still get lots of fax orders and phone orders.  If you want to maximize your sales, your cart must take these kinds of orders easily.

22. Does it provide free training?  You'll need training in both the basic set up of using your shopping cart and determining your online sales strategy, so that you maximize the amount of money spent by each customer.
